This week's eventsSubmitted by Elena on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 15:42
I had a very fun week, which included working on a "cheesy" ad campaign (I got to take those pretty flowers home!), photographing the Marine Mammal Center's fundraising gala at Fort Baker, and shooting an event up in Napa at Meadowood. I became a big fan of the Marine Mammal Center years ago, before moving to California, after seeing this program on PBS. When I moved to the Bay Area I was excited to get involved with the center and donate my time however I could. This year's fundraising gala involved a sunset yacht ride around Angel Island, with scientists on board to point out porpoises and other great animals. I feel very lucky to have been a part of such an incredible event! |
Friday FiveSubmitted by Elena on Fri, 05/03/2013 - 19:13
Five fun things from my week: Much Ado About Nothing (San Francisco Film Festival) - View the trailer here. I should start by saying I'm a big Joss Whedon fan (he directed this adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy). I also have a long history of studying, watching, and acting in Much Ado About Nothing. I was highly anticipating this movie (which was filmed in less than two weeks at Joss' house), and it did not disappoint. The two leads were at the festival to (very charmingly) introduce the film and answer questions. It will be opening in SF, LA, and NY in June. Girl with a Pearl Earring (DeYoung Museum) - Exhibition on display until June 2, 2013. This is a great exhibit that includes several Rembrandts in addition to Vermeer's classic. Seeing Girl with a Pearl Earring in person is incredible. The colors are smoother and the subject far, far more enchanting. SF Curbed - Last weekend, after a long walk around the city, I spent a solid few hours scouring the Curbed San Francisco blog. I love that it isn't just about expensive home sales, but also a great way to stay up to date on what's happening around town. Creative Live - As their website says, CreativeLive is "free live online workshops taught by world class experts." I am so grateful for everyone who is part of this community. This week's class with Joey L was especially inspiring. Fraiche Frozen Yogurt - I've been to Fraiche twice this week already. Favorite toppings: toasted coconut, mochi, and blueberries. Julia Morgan Ballroom - San Francisco WeddingSubmitted by Elena on Mon, 04/22/2013 - 06:23MyLinh and Nate's family traveled from near and far for their wedding. Filipino traditions were incorporated into the classic ceremony, which was held at St. Ignatius Church. The reception was downtown at the Julia Morgan Ballroom, one of my favorite San Francisco locations to photograph. The color red featured prominently in their design, from their logo to bouquets and centerpieces. MyLinh and Nate had their engagement session on the San Francisco Embarcadero (see here), which we revisited on their wedding day.

Meadowood - Napa Valley WeddingSubmitted by Elena on Mon, 04/08/2013 - 20:12Living in San Francisco where the seasons are foggy or slightly less foggy, it's not often I get to photograph a wedding where it truly feels like autumn. Tara and Cole's destination wedding at Meadowood Napa Valley was a joy. There were leaves covering every inch of the ground and their wedding colors were perfect for the season.

Hans Fahden - Calistoga WeddingSubmitted by Elena on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 12:40Steph and Roland traveled from New York for their wedding at Hans Fahden Vineyards in Calistoga. I went to college with Roland's brother, so it was especially fun meeting their family and friends. Hans Fahden is a beautiful location with caves, ponds, and vineyards. Amanda of Vineyard Events coordinated the wedding and did the floral arrangements, while Elaine Bell Catering made sure everyone was well fed with a ridiculously delicious meal. Steph shared her perspective: "Roland and I decided on a destination wedding from the get go because we wanted a small intimate wedding which would be difficult if we had it close by. We lived in NYC and decided we wanted our wedding to be in wine country, California. We scouted several locations around Napa, Sonoma, and Calistoga and immediately fell in love with Hans Fahden in Calistoga. The location was perfect with a small tea garden, two ponds, a cultivated garden throughout the entire property, a small vineyard in the back and a walk in cave for dinner. The weather was beautiful on our wedding day. It was hot and sunny. We had a short ceremony and were able to take lots of pictures before spending time with family and friends during dinner. Afterwards, we spent most of the night dancing and chatting with everyone. We had about 50 people in attendance and we thought it was the perfect size for an intimate wedding. We loved our wedding and will remember it always!"
